How to Portland vs Phoenix

*UPDATE: Turner and Davis will start the game, per Casey Holdahl Tuesday afternoon. If I had to guess, the Blazers’ starting lineup should look something like:

PG: Damian Lillard | SG: C.J. McCollum | SF: Al-Farouq Aminu | PF: Moe Harkless | C: Jusuf Nurkić

Coach Terry Stotts mentioned Aminu playing more at small forward this season.

Initially, it seemed he would play the three with the bench unit. Noah Vonleh’s injury, however, pushes him into the starting forward spot alongside Harkless.

This change hurts both sets of Blazer rotations.

The starters will now play small ball, with the 6-foot-8-inch Harkless at power forward. Against bigger teams like Phoenix (Tyson Chandler and Marquese Chriss), points in the paint may be easily conceded.

The bench, similarly, lacks defensive presence. Of the reserves, only Ed Davis (and somewhat Zach Collins) play strong defense.

The Suns have a deep lineup that can expose Portland’s weak bench. Rookie Josh Jackson along with Tyler Ulis and Derrick Jones Jr. headline a flashy second unit.

They’ll give Evan Turner, Jake Layman and Anthony Morrow/Isaiah Briscoe troubles defensively.

Additionally, the Eric Bledsoe–Devin Booker tandem generates a lot of offense. Lillard and McCollum’s summer focus on defense will be put to the test Tuesday.
